Reflecting On Our First Human Trafficking Awareness Event

Reflecting On Our First Human Trafficking Awareness Event

January 18, 2024 | BY TOMAS LARES

January 11, 2024, marks a significant milestone in our ongoing battle against human trafficking. It’s been 16 years since United Abolitionists initiated the first human trafficking awareness event right here in Central Florida, a day that set the foundation for a widespread educational movement.

Sixteen years ago at Lake Eola Park, nearly a hundred determined advocates gathered to make a stand against the scourge of human trafficking. This gathering was more than just a meeting; it was the spark that ignited a massive wave of awareness and education.

We marched around Lake Eola, united in our cause, not knowing that this day would mark the beginning of an enduring mission. Since then, our efforts have reached far and wide, educating tens of thousands of Central Floridians and people beyond our state’s borders. We’ve taught communities how to recognize the signs of human trafficking, how to intervene effectively, and most importantly, how to report and prevent this heinous crime.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has joined us over the years – your support and dedication have been instrumental in our achievements. Let’s continue to work together, educate, and empower our communities. Together, we can create a world where human trafficking is a thing of the past.
