Dear Partners,
It is with deep respect and fond memories that we celebrate the life and incredible contributions of Carol Welker. It takes a village to fight human trafficking, and for over a decade, Carol dedicated herself wholeheartedly to the cause of stopping human trafficking.
Her volunteerism left an indelible mark on everyone she touched and the organizations she served, including United Abolitionists, Inc. She truly impacted the lives of many.
I first met Carol Welker in 2012 at a monthly Central Florida Human Trafficking Task Force meeting. I found out her interest in the fight against human trafficking occurred in 2011 after she attended the screening of Exodus Cry’s Nefarious Merchant of Souls at Full Sail University. The Florida Abolitionist (now United Abolitionists) hosted this screening and Carol knew that human trafficking was the “cause” God was calling her to. Carol called our office and I immediately felt her amazing passion, therefore I invited her to our next training and orientation.
Throughout these years, Carol attended and served as a volunteer at numerous trainings, awareness events, the faith alliance, task force meetings, and our annual human trafficking awareness days conference. All of this was only the “tip of the iceberg” of Carol’s involvement in our fight against trafficking. Routinely, she would distribute hundreds of our brochures, posters, and other materials throughout our community.
Carol showed no fear and brought her passion to many police departments to ask them what they were doing to stop human trafficking. If the answer was very little or nothing, she gave them a “speech” they would never forget and it often triggered action in our law enforcement community.
Beyond her immediate impact, Carol leaves behind a powerful legacy. She showed us that volunteerism isn’t just about giving time; it’s about giving a part of yourself to create a better world. Her selflessness and determination serve as a guiding light for us all, reminding us of the profound impact each individual can have when driven by passion and compassion, a legacy of service and inspiration.
As we reflect on Carol’s journey, let us carry forward her spirit of generosity and service. Let us honor her memory not only in words but in actions. Let’s continue the work she began by supporting causes dear to her heart, and by fostering the sense of community she cherished. In other words, let’s carry on her legacy!
Carol Welker’s legacy will endure through the lives she touched and the hearts she inspired. She is an example that challenges us to strive to be more compassionate and serve those who are most vulnerable in our communities, victims and survivors of human trafficking. Today, we celebrate her life, her kindness, and her unwavering commitment to making a difference.
Rest in peace Carol and know that your legacy of love and service will live on in the hearts of all of us who were fortunate enough to know you and work closely with you in our village that fights human trafficking.
